Movement Disorders

  • Levodopa Pump Research Study

Phase 3 subcutaneous pump containing levodopa for Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurological condition, which affects the brain. PD gets worse over time, but how quickly it progresses varies a lot from person to person. Some symptoms of PD are tremors, stiffness, and slowness of movement. This study measures the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of ABBV-951 versus oral Levodopa in advanced PD participants to achieve reduction in motor fluctuations. View Full Study.
  • New Ideas

New IDEAS is a nationwide research study for people who have memory loss. The study is looking at a type of FDA-approved brain imaging called an amyloid PET scan. It is a safe, non-invasive test that takes pictures of your brain. New IDEAS is trying to find out if your PET scan results help guide your doctor in diagnosing and treating your memory condition. We want to see if this leads to better health for you. Learn More.

  • Upright VR in PD

Use of Upright VR technology in clinical setting to predict balance impairments in PD; this technology is also used in NPH research
  • Good Life Model

In collaboration with Drexel University’s College of Nursing and Health Professions and School of Public Health, Dr Peter Gliebus received a grant from Independence Blue Cross to investigate non-pharmaceutical interventions to combat dementia. This Good Life Model is the first of its kind in the United States.

Neurocritical Care

  • Reverse-IT

Phase 3 investigational drug study to reverse bleeding in patients treated with ticagrelor

Neuropharmacy

  • Cannabis in Neurological Disorders

Studies to investigate efficacy of medicinal cannabis in patients with pain. For patients with Chiari Malformation taking medicinal marijuana as part of their treatment plan, this study investigates the effectiveness of marijuana for pain. Funded by the American Syringomyelia and Chiari Alliance Project

Neuro Oncology

  • Super-Selective Intraarterial Intracranial Infusion of Bevacizumab (Avastin) for Glioblastoma Multiforme

Our specially trained Comprehensive Vascular Neurosurgeons offer participation in an experimental clinical trial for patient with a type of aggressive brain tumor called glioblastoma multiforme or grade IV glioma. The neurosurgeons inject a chemotherapeutic agent called bevacizumab (also known as Avastin) directly into the circulation of the brain tumor. This therapy is available to patients who experience tumor recurrence following first line treatment with surgical resection, radiation and chemotherapy. A minimally invasive cerebral angiogram is performed and small tubes (catheters) are navigated to the area of the brain containing the tumor. Avastin chemotherapy is then injected. View Full Study.
  • Philadelphia Coalition for a Cure (PC4C)

The PC4C is a cooperative clinical diagnostics and research initiative with goals to bring precision medicine to adults and children with brain tumors. The first clinical trail from this coalition will bring comprehensive molecular profiling and diagnostic testing to better inform treatment decisions to all patients with brain tumors in the Philadelphia area. PC4C members including GNI at Crozer, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Children's Hospital of Orange County, Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University. Click To Learn More

  • TRACES

TRaCES, or Translational Research and Core Expert Support, is a collaborative effort between Global Neurosciences Institute and Drexel University College of Medicine’s Department of Pharmacology & Physiology that aims to support translational and research-driven partnerships between scientists and clinicians. TRaCES elevates ongoing research by providing access to tissue samples to faculty, offering experimental and technical support, and connecting researchers and clinicians that are interested in scientific collaborations. Neurocritical Care

  • Melatonin for Delirium

Project to investigate the use of melatonin to replace antipsychotics for delirium

Neurosurgery

  • Intraarterial Verapamil for Neuroprotection in Ischemic Stroke

A minimally invasive cerebral angiogram is performed by our specially trained Comprehensive Vascular Neurosurgeons for emergent stroke treatment. We offer participation in an experimental clinical trial for patients that have undergone mechanical thrombectomy following acute ischemic stroke. We inject a neuroprotective agent called verapamil directly into the area of the brain that experienced the stroke to aid in the recovery after stroke and protect brain cells that may otherwise die. View Full Study.
  • The InvisiShunt Registry

The InvisiShunt is an FDA cleared implant that can restore the natural contour of the cranium after certain neurosurgical procedures.  In our efforts to optimize patient satisfaction, quality of life, and surgical outcomes, the surgical team at GNI uses the InvisiShunt to eliminate the “shunt bump” commonly associated with hydrocephalus shunt valve implantation.  Our ongoing multi-center research in this area has the potential to verify aesthetic improvements and advance patient satisfaction through better operative results.
  • Sunosi for Stroke Recovery
Jazz pharmaceuticals sponsored project to determine if sunosi can increase wakefulness and promote functional recovery post stroke
