Dr. Veznedaroglu is one of the most experienced cerebrovascular neurosurgeons in the country. He is a professor and the director of Drexel Neurosciences Institute at Drexel University’s College of Medicine, and holds the Robert A. Groff Chair in Neurosurgery. As chair of GNI, Dr. Vez, as he is known, leads a team of some of the nation’s most experienced neurosurgeons specializing in complex conditions of the brain.
In addition to providing clinical care, Dr. Vez is the primary investigator of numerous clinical and basic science studies related to cerebrovascular disease and is a nationally recognized academic leader in the area of cerebrovascular care. These groundbreaking clinical trials have transformed the standard of care for neurologic emergencies, and he continues to develop and patent innovative treatments and devices for stroke and aneurysm. Dr. Vez was the first neurosurgeon in the country to use the Trevo® Pro Retriever, following approval by the FDA, for the treatment of stroke. He was also the first doctor in the mid-Atlantic region pioneering the use of numerous devices, including the Wingspan stent system, the first FDA-approved stent used to open clogged arteries in the brain, the Merci Retriever, the Penumbra device, the Cordis Enterprise Stent for the treatment of wide necked aneurysms, and the Onyx Glue treatment for aneurysms.
Dr. Vez’s expertise includes the treatment of aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), stroke, Chiari malformations and other potentially fatal conditions of the brain and cerebrovascular conditions. He is widely published and regularly is asked to present lectures at conferences on a global basis. He has lectured extensively on the treatment of aneurysm, subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke and other intracranial vascular disorders. As a recognized academic leader, he has written chapters and articles in various publications as well as edited books on neurosurgical techniques and issues that are used by neurosurgeons across the country.
Dr. Veznedaroglu is board certified in neurological surgery, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the American Association of Neurologic Surgeons (FAANS) and the American Heart and Stroke Association (FAHA). He served as director of the Division of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He also directed the endovascular/cerebrovascular neurosurgery fellowship program at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he completed his fellowship training in cerebrovascular/neurointerventional neurosurgery and neuro-critical care. Dr. Vez earned his medical degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine.
Dr. Greenberg is a board-certified emergency medicine physician highly specialized in the treatment of neurologic emergencies. She is Director of the Neurologic Emergency Department at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
Dr. Greenberg’s work was critical to the establishment of the nation’s first dedicated Neurologic Emergency Department. The American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians recognized her innovations to speed critical treatment to patients experiencing acute ischemic stroke and awarded her its inaugural Practice Innovation Award. She has advanced the state of neurologic emergency treatment and has published research in both the American Journal of Emergency Medicine and Mathews Journal of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Greenberg is widely published on the topic of neurologic emergencies, especially stroke, and lectures at emergency medicine and neuroscience conferences throughout the nation. She serves as an oral board examiner with the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine.
Dr. Greenberg completed a fellowship with the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians and is a member of its Practice Management Committee. She graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – School of Osteopathic Medicine (UMDNJ-SOM), receiving the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Achievement and the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Emergency Medicine. She was Chief Intern and Intern of the Year at UMDNJ-SOM and completed her Emergency Medicine residency program there, serving as Chief Resident. She also won The Foxhole Award which honors the resident whom other attending physicians most want to collaborate with while working in the Emergency Department.
Dr. Greenberg is also faculty for Virtua Healthy System and Kennedy University Medical Center in South Jersey, Aria Jefferson residency program in Philadelphia, and Clinical Assistant Professor for the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She is a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine, and the American Heart Association.
Dr. Liebman, a nationally recognized leader in cerebrovascular care, is a cerebrovascular neurosurgeon uniquely trained in both traditional open and minimally invasive, endovascular neurosurgical approaches. He serves as director of the Cerebrovascular Division at Drexel Neurosciences Institute (DNI) and is an associate professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Drexel University College of Medicine.
Dr. Liebman also serves as director of neurosurgical critical care for Global Neurosciences Institute (GNI).
Dr. Liebman is widely published in the areas of stroke and aneurysm. He was the first physician in the country to treat a patient using Trevo® Pro Retriever, a device for the removal of clots in ischemic stroke patients, during its investigational phase. He was also one of the first in the Philadelphia region to use Solitaire™, another clot retrieval device. In addition, Dr. Liebman was among the first in the region to use the Merci Retriever and Penumbra devices as well as the Cordis Enterprise Stent. Dr. Liebman is trained in the use of the CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System, providing patients with a non-invasive treatment option for AVMs, brain and spinal tumors, and trigeminal neuralgia.
After completing his neurosurgery residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Dr. Liebman was director of cerebrovascular neurosurgery for the Department of Neurosciences at Seton Hall University. He was chief of the Division of Neurosurgery at Muhlenberg Hospital prior to joining the medical staff at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he received fellowship training in cerebrovascular microsurgery and interventional endovascular neurosurgery. He served as an assistant professor of neurosurgery at Thomas Jefferson University’s Jefferson Medical College, where he started and directed a microvascular course taught to residents and fellows. He earned his medical degree from the Temple University School of Medicine.
Dr. Liebman is consistently recognized by both patients and peers for his outstanding care, having been honored in multiple publications as a Top Doctor. He has been recognized in SJ Magazine’s Top Doc issue and as part of South Jersey Magazine’s Top Docs, as voted by readers. Dr. Liebman has also been recognized as a Patient’s Choice and Top Surgeon award winner for multiple years. He has written chapters and articles in publications and peer-reviewed journals that are used as data for neurosurgeons across the country, and he has lectured at international conferences around the world. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Shneidman, a board-certified, fellowship-trained neurologist, is a neurohospitalist with Global Neurosciences Institute. He is a faculty member in the Department of Neurology at Drexel University College of Medicine.
Dr. Shneidman completed fellowships at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and at the National Institutes of Health. He completed his residency at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and did an internship at Parkland Memorial Hospital/Dallas Veterans Administration Hospital. Dr. Shneidman received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and his bachelors degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the Philadelphia Neurologic Society.
His current interests include the diagnosis and treatment of stroke, epilepsy, delirium, and other problems commonly encountered in hospitalized patients.
Dr. Gofman is a board-certified pharmacotherapy and critical care clinical pharmacy specialist. She is Director of the Neuropharmacology Program at Global Neurosciences Institute where she is leading the Neurosciences team in establishing the most innovative pharmacologic practices. Dr. Gofman received her Pharm.D. from University of the Sciences, Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and went on to do her residency training at Abington Memorial Hospital. Natalie participates in a multi-disciplinary approach treating critically ill patients and has been instrumental in guiding clinical and research endeavors through her expertise in clinical pharmacology.
Dr. Gofman has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals on novel therapy options for the treatment of anticoagulant related bleeding disorders, ICU paralysis and sedation, as well as complex neurologic infections. She has also presented at national scientific conferences on topics such as antiplatelet reversal, pharmacologic management of patients after traumatic brain injury, and perioperative management of patients needing anticoagulation.
Tina C. Loven, DO completed her fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford University in California and neurosurgical residency at Hoffstra Northshore/LIJ School of Medicine in New York. She currently serves as a director of Pediatric Neurosurgery for Global Neurosciences Institute at St Christopher’s Hospital for Children. Dr. Loven’s interest, specialized training and research interest include hydrocephalus, Chiari I malformation, congenital conditions and pediatric CNS tumors. She is trained in specialized techniques for treatment of tumors and epilepsy including endoscopic surgery and laser interstitial thermal therapy.
Dr. Binning is a highly experienced, fellowship-trained, comprehensive vascular neurosurgeon. She is an Associate Professor at Drexel University School of Medicine. Dr. Binning specializes in both minimally invasive, endovascular/cerebrovascular neurosurgery as well as conventional vascular neurosurgery, making her one of a select number of neurosurgeons in the country trained in both types of vascular neurosurgery. Her expertise includes the treatment of aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), stroke, and other potentially fatal conditions of the brain and cerebrovascular conditions.
Dr. Binning is widely published and has presented at numerous conferences, including the Richard Lende Winter Neurosurgery Conference, where she spoke on the use of flow diversion in treating large and giant aneurysms and symptomatic intracranial arterial dissection in adolescents, and the use of stenting in these patients She has presented at national meetings of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the annual Cerebrovascular Complications Conference, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Binning is also an instructor for the AANS residents’ course. Dr. Binning’s research has appeared in multiple journals, including Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, Pediatrics and Cancer Research. She has also been published in Endovascular Today, World Neurosurgery, and Acta Neurochirurgica, the official journal of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies.
Dr. Binning earned her medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed fellowships in endovascular and cerebrovascular neurosurgery with the University of Buffalo’s Department of Neurosurgery, one of the country’s leading training programs.
Dr. Sirken is a board-certified neurologist with Global Neurosciences Institute where he serves as Director of their Neuro-Hospitalist program. He is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology at Drexel University College of Medicine where he serves as Director of the Neurology Student Clerkship, Director of the Neurology Sub-Internship Course, and Director of In-Patient Neurology. He specializes in stroke treatment and has subspecialty board-certifications in Vascular Neurology, Headache Medicine, and Brain Injury Medicine.
Dr. Sirken completed a residency and fellowship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania, as well as internships at the New York Methodist Hospital and the Mercy Catholic Medical Center. He received his doctorate degree at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Osteopathic Association, the American Academy of Neurology, the National Headache Foundation, and the American Headache Society.
Dr. Sarkar was born in Calcutta, India and raised in New York City. His intial interest in science and medicine stemmed from his father’s profession as a biophysicist. He spent part of his early days in his father’s lab. At the time his major accomplishment resided in the belief that he could construct an electron microscope, like the one his father utilized, out of tin cans. Later, while in high school, more tangible science goals were realized and culminated in Dr. Sarkar becoming a nationally recognized Westinghouse Science Scholar.
While attending Brown University (Providence, RI) as an undergraduate, his summers were spent investigating issues related to viral oncology at various institutions including the Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research (Bern, Switzerland), the Rockefeller University (New York, NY), and the University of Georgia (Athens, GA). Dr. Sarkar received his MD/PhD degrees from the University of Miami School of Medicine (Miami, FL). His PhD dissertation was conducted in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, with a focus on molecular neuroscience. This work culminated in cloning and characterizing neuropeptide receptors from the brain and earned research distinction from the Graduate School. It was at Miami that an interest in neurosurgery was galvanized.
A fellowship at Columbia University (New York, NY) in single molecule mechanics, nanotechnology, and instrument design were the focus of his post-doctoral work. This post-doctoral fellowship was performed in the midst of a neurosurgical residency at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN).
Dr. Sarkar’s first faculty appointment was at The Ohio State University’s Department of Neurological Surgery as an Assistant Professor and Director of Neurological Nanomedicine; ultimately, heading the Epilepsy, Tumor and Stereotactic programs at Ohio State University and was Co-Director of the Functional Neurosurgery program there as well.
The opportunity to head the epilepsy and brain tumor program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences prompted a move to Little Rock. Here Dr. Sarkar was an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery, as well the Director of Surgical Oncology.
A move to Central Pennsylvania was prompted by the chance to direct the Laboratory of Nanomedicine as well as lead the Stereotactic, Epilepsy and Functional in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Geisinger Medical Center.
Dr. Sarkar joined Global Neurosciences Institute in January 2019 as a neurosurgeon and is a member of the Department of Neurosurgery at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Sarkar serves as the director of Stereotactic, Functional and Epilepsy Surgery program for Global Neurosciences Institute.
Dr. Hakma is among an elite group of dual-trained vascular neurosurgeons able to perform conventional neurosurgery as well as minimally invasive endovascular neurosurgery. He is a cerebrovascular/endovascular neurosurgeon with Drexel Neurosciences Institute (DNI) and an assistant professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Drexel University College of Medicine.
Dr. Hakma is widely published in the areas of aneurysms, stroke, carotid artery disease, and other highly complex conditions of the brain and spine. He regularly presents at leading neuroscience conferences.
Following an internship in internal medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine, Dr. Hakma completed residencies in both neurology and neurosurgery at Temple University, where he was chief resident. He completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular/endovascular neurosurgery and neurocritical care at Capital Health System’s Stroke and Cerebrovascular Center, under the direction of Erol Veznedaroglu, MD, FACS, FAANS, FAHA. He earned his medical degree at Damascus University.
Dr. Hedayat is a fellowship trained, comprehensive vascular neurosurgeon with extensive experience treating and researching some of the most complex conditions of the brain. His expertise includes the treatment of aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), stroke, and other potentially fatal conditions of the brain and cerebrovascular conditions.
Widely published, Dr. Hedayat’s research is focused on intra-arterial management of stroke, cerebral aneurysms, carotid artery disease, brain tumors, and neurosurgical outcomes and complications. As a research fellow in the Case Western University Department of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Hedayat conducted cutting-edge brain tumor research involving drug therapy receptors.
After earning his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, Dr. Hedayat completed a general surgery internship at Marshall University and a neurosurgery residency at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. While there, he also completed a fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery and served as chief resident. He completed a post-residency fellowship in Open and Endovascular Neurosurgery and Critical Care at the Drexel Neurosciences Institute. He is a member of the Society of NeuroInterventional Surgery, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
Dr. Strenger received his medical degree from the University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School in 1982. He completed his general surgical residency year and neurosurgical residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York from 1982 – 1988, where he was Chief Resident and was awarded the Association of Attending Staff/Bella Tractenberg Award for House Staff Excellence in 1988.
Dr. Strenger provides general neurosurgical services, and specializes in microsurgical and minimally invasive techniques for cerebral and spinal disorders with an emphasis on spinal surgery. Dr. Strenger is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and has been awarded Fellowship status in the American College of Surgeons and American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
He has previously served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery, as well as Director of the Division of Neurosurgery at the Atlanticare Regional Medical Center from 1997 through 2002, and has held the position of Medical Director, Shore Memorial Hospital Neurosciences Center, from 2004-2011, and Medical Staff President, Shore Medical Center for 2013 and 2014. In 2002, Dr. Strenger received a Master of Medical Management degree from the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Dr. Strenger joined Global Neurosciences in April 2016, and is currently Assistant Professor, Neurosurgery, at the Drexel University College of Medicine.
Dr. Thomas is a widely published and highly experienced neurosurgeon with specialized fellowship training in Neurosurgical Oncology. He is a neurosurgeon with Drexel Neurosciences Institute specializing in surgery of primary and metastatic brain and spine tumors. He is trained in specialized techniques for treatment of brain and spine tumors, including radiosurgery, endoscopic surgery, laser interstitial thermal therapy and minimally invasive spine surgery.
After graduating from Harvard College, Dr. Thomas attended medical school at the University of Michigan. He then completed his residency in Neurological Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and his fellowship in Neurosurgical Oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Thomas’ awards and honors include the Advancing Clinical Excellence Grant at Baylor College of Medicine and the Integra Foundation Award from the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. Dr. Thomas was a Congress of Neurologic Surgeons Tumor Fellow and an American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellow.
Dr. Thomas has published numerous scientific research articles in peer-reviewed publications on highly complex surgical procedures, including many involving oncology. He also presents at scientific neurosurgical conferences around the nation.
