Carotid Angioplasty and Stenting: Endovascular Treatment
Narrowing of the main arteries in the neck that deliver blood to the brain can result in stroke or stroke-like symptoms. Our specially trained Comprehensive Vascular Neurosurgeons use a minimally invasive cerebral angiogram to assess the narrowing of the blood vessels in the neck. This type of minimally invasive treatment begins with a small catheter containing specialized tools/devices being inserted in a blood vessel in the groin (femoral artery) and traveling inside the arteries to reach the neck. Balloons and/or stents are then utilized to reopen narrowed vessels thereby restoring proper blood flow to the brain.
